This was hilarious! I may have laughed out loud a few times watching my daughter play vball. Which may have been misconstrued. Loved the part about self-consciousness. Thanks for the reminders and the kick in the (brie?) butt!
It wasn't until a few years back I realized that I was a writer. When I put my Dad's articles together (Tales from the Piney Naturalist) I realized I AM a writer. But to write a book in and of itself? THAT was to be a challenge. Lately I have been considering writing a book about my amazing father-in-law. Your words have inspired me and instilled the courage to move forward. Thanks! We'll see what happens... :-D
Amazing! I just ordered my copy of Tales from The Piney Naturalist and can't wait to read it! Before he died, my Dad wrote a self-published book of personal essays called Minnesota Stories; it is wry and amusing and likewise made me realize that storytelling runs in our blood. I hope you do write your book!
I love this! It’s exactly what I needed, since I’ve recently begun my journey to writing fiction. And you just break it down so well here and make it feel approachable so thank you 🙏🏻
One of the things I have been praying for help to get better at in the last couple of years is to not take myself so seriously. As you pointed out, being self-conscious can be very limiting and in my life it has negatively impacted my marriage and other relationships and prevented me from fully being the person that God created me to be. I appreciate you sharing what you did, as it served as a good reminder for me today. Thank you. PS: My wheel of brie is comfortable and content within some cotton briefs. ;)
Thank you so much for sharing, Laurel. It took me a long time to learn to be less self-conscious, too, and it is something I am still learning (hence my New Year's Theme this year: Confidence). Another one of the identities I'm also still learning to embrace is being a Funny Person. Laughter is liberation, as our wheels of brie so amply testify. 😂 By the way, did you notice what you did there? Cotton BRIEfs? LOL! P.S. I got your card and your word for 2025: Grace. Amen to that! May we all receive and give it gratefully and graciously this year. 💖

So happy you enjoyed it and love the image of you snickering out of turn at volleyball practice. It's just too (gouda?) good! 😂

I'm so grateful that you bring laughter into my life, Sabrina. I did NOT notice the BRIEfs - LOL!
🥰 Thank you, Laurel!
